A Bar Harbor original since 2011
Owner Matt Haskell is a Bangor native who started out washing dishes, worked an outdoor wood-fired lobster pit at the Harborside in Brewer, and learned the trade at Rupununi in Bar Harbor in the late 1990s.
He built Finback Alehouse in town, then opened Blaze on Main Street in 2011 as, in his words, “a more upscale, urban-feeling concept, with custom-made grills burning red oak.” It became the flagship of the Blaze Restaurant Group, which grew to include Blaze Bangor and its own craft brewery.
And it stays open all year, with a heated, dog-friendly patio on Main Street, in a town where many kitchens go dark for the winter.
“We’ll keep the fire roaring.”
