The first Blaze.
Owner Matt Haskell is a Bangor native who started out washing dishes, tended a wood-fired lobster pit at the Harborside in Brewer, and learned the trade at Rupununi in Bar Harbor in the late '90s.
After building Finback Alehouse in town, he opened Blaze at 198 Main St in 2011. “A more upscale, urban-feeling concept, with custom-made grills burning red oak,” is how he described it to Down East Magazine. It became the flagship of the Blaze Restaurant Group, which now brews its own beer.
“We'll keep the fire roaring.”

“Always skeptical about grilling lobster... because they oftentimes end up dry. NOT the case here. The grilled lobster was excellent.”
