First, a cedar plank goes up in flames
The Smoky Old Fashioned is built inside its own glass. A cedar plank is set alight right at the bar, the glass traps the smoke, and the drink goes together while it still curls.
In a room this small, every seat is front row.
“If you want to see a professional mixologist/bartender/artist, go to the Cottage Street Pub”
Review via Restaurantji, July 2023
Infused in jars, aged in barrels, poured from taps
Tessa runs the bar and the cocktail program behind it: spirits infused in-house, and barrel-aged cocktails drawn from their own tap lines.
The lavender ends up in the Bees Knees, with gin, honey and lemon.
Fifteen seats and one popcorn machine
The room is small on purpose: roughly fifteen seats inside under the pressed-tin ceiling, about fifteen more on the bench-lined patio, and a vintage popcorn machine working the end of the bar. The popcorn is popped on site with the house seasoning.
Dale Stockburger grew up in Bar Harbor and came home after twenty years in Portland; the pub has poured on Cottage Street since May of 2010. In 2021 he bought Finback Alehouse across the street, the year-round sister bar where he had his first legal beer back in 1983. Regulars know the crew by name: Tessa, Dale, Tammy, David and Nick.
“Cool bar. Great drinks and music. Bartender was really fun to talk to.”
