Fifteen seats under a pressed-tin ceiling

The whole pub is one small room: an antique tin ceiling, a warm wood bar, about fifteen seats inside and fifteen more on the bench-lined patio under string lights.

There is no kitchen. A vintage popcorn machine at the end of the bar keeps the bowls full, popped on site with house seasoning, free, always. The room is 21 and over.

Infused, aged, set on fire.

  • The jars

    Lavender, jalapeño and oolong tea steep behind the bar. The lavender infusion lands in the Bees Knees, with gin, honey and lemon.

  • The barrels

    House cocktails age in barrels and pour straight from the tap.

  • The smoke

    A cedar plank is set alight at the bar, the glass fills with smoke, and the Old Fashioned is built inside it. Cocktail theater at arm’s length.

Pouring since 2010

Dale Stockburger grew up in Bar Harbor, spent twenty years in Portland, and came home. He ran Epi’s Pizza and Subs for four years, then bought the building on Cottage Street. The pub has been pouring here since May 2010.

Behind the bar, owner-bartender Tessa Hartley runs the room and the cocktail program: the jars, the barrels, the smoke. About eight people work here in season, and regulars ask for Tessa, Dale, Tammy, David and Nick by name.

In 2021 the same team took over Finback Alehouse across the street, the year-round sister bar where Dale had his first legal beer in 1983, back when it was Bubba’s. When the pub closes for winter, the lights stay on at Finback.
