Josef’s Deli
The Village Legend Reuben, cut and stacked on butcher paper: dark pumpernickel, sauerkraut, melted Swiss and a half pound of corned beef

Est. June 2025 · The Village Shops, Gatlinburg

Home of the Village Legend.

A half-pound Reuben on pumpernickel, served just the way The Village has enjoyed it for the last 50 years.

The deli is new. The legend is not.

Josef’s Deli opened on June 28, 2025 in Shop #9 of The Village Shops, Gatlinburg’s storied European style shopping courtyard at 634 Parkway. It runs as a family operation, and it joined the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce within weeks of opening its doors.

The signature sandwich carries a much older story. The Village Legend is a half-pound Reuben on pumpernickel, offered in full and half sizes. The Chamber of Commerce introduced it with a single line:

“Just the way it has been enjoyed in The Village for the last 50 years.”

Made fresh, every morning.

Sides are made fresh daily, and the daily specials change with them. The glass case and the soda cooler do the advertising.

Tucked into Gatlinburg’s European courtyard.

The Village Shops sit just off the Parkway: brick walkways, hanging lanterns and wrought iron, a shopping courtyard built in the European style. Josef’s is Shop #9.

It is the sister business of Maddi Mae’s Cafe & Creamery, a few doors away in the same courtyard and run by the same family.
