The village is painted on the walls

Around the dining room run murals of Seal Harbor in different seasons, painted views of the same village that sits outside the bay and octagonal windows.

Overhead, pressed tin ceilings. Over the tables, stained glass pendant lamps. And along the honey colored wood bar, a row of royal blue stools. Their own website put it simply: “grab a stool at the historic bar.”

Chowder worth the detour

The fish chowder is made from scratch. The seafood chowder is a meal in itself, loaded with haddock, clams, shrimp and lobster. The lobster stew and French onion soup have loyal fans of their own.

Fish chowder was off the charts... This is a very sweet restaurant in idyllic Seal Harbor, away from the Bar Harbor congestion.

Three generations at 12 Main Street

The same family has owned and operated The Lighthouse since 1959, and it is now in its third generation.

Seal Harbor is a tiny village on the quiet side of Acadia, with a beach down the road and only a few places to eat. This is the family run one: a full menu, breakfast through dinner, and the historic bar to sit at while the chowder is made from scratch.

Nothing here is rushed. Settle in, order the bowl, and watch the village go by through the bay windows.

Save room for the pie

The Maine blueberry pie is homemade: flaky crust, wild Maine blueberries, best with vanilla ice cream.

The top of the lunch was the freshly baked blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream... Really get the pie and do not, I mean do not regret it!!!!
