The Lighthouse Restaurant

Family-run chowder, supper and pie at 12 Main Street, Seal Harbor. Seven miles from the Bar Harbor crowds.

Chowder worth the detour

The fish chowder is made from scratch. The seafood chowder is a meal in itself, loaded with haddock, clams, shrimp and lobster. The lobster stew and the French onion soup have loyal fans of their own.

A small kitchen cooks to order, so settle in at village pace.

“Fish chowder was off the charts... This is a very sweet restaurant in idyllic Seal Harbor, away from the Bar Harbor congestion.”

Same family since 1959

Three generations of one family have run the Lighthouse. The dining room wears the years well: pressed white tin ceilings, stained glass pendant lamps, murals of Seal Harbor in every season on the walls, and red lobster cutouts hanging in the front windows.

The honey-colored wood bar keeps its royal blue upholstered stools, and bay and octagonal windows look out on the village street.

On the quiet side of Acadia

Seal Harbor sits seven miles from the crowds of Bar Harbor and three miles from Northeast Harbor, on the doorstep of Acadia National Park and a short walk from the beach.

The village has about three places to eat. The Lighthouse is the only one that is family-run and cooking a full menu, breakfast through dinner.

“This is one of our go-to lunch spots when we vacation in Acadia. The food is always good and it's a nice, off-the-beaten path spot.”
