Bar Harbor's hidden all-Maine speakeasy
Every beer, wine & spirit. Made in Maine.
A six to eight seat bar hidden in the back of a gift shop. The password is finding the door.
If it wasn’t made in Maine, it isn’t behind this bar.
Every craft beer, every wine, every spirit, every cocktail ingredient comes from a Maine maker. Nothing from away.
The beer
Only Maine breweries on the shelf, from wild blueberry ale to Cadillac Mountain stout.
The wine
Maine-made wines, one of the most praised picks in the bar’s Google reviews.
The spirits
Whiskey, bourbon, vodka, gin and rye, all distilled in Maine.
The mixers
Down to the root beer under the Root Beer Bourbon. Even that is made in Maine.
What pours here
Drinks only, no kitchen. Despite the name, the only lobster in the place is the one on the sign.

The door is in the back of a gift shop
The Maine Store sits at 152 Main St, across from the Village Green, stocked with Maine-made goods. It is run by a husband and wife team: she owns and runs the store out front, and Darrin tends the bar behind an unmarked door in the back corner.
After a decade on Mt. Desert Street, the store and its hidden bar moved to Main Street and reopened for the 2025 season. Inside, the room stayed tiny: six to eight seats at a glossy dark wood bar, rope wrapped beams and warm lamps.
Darrin runs the room
Ask what to drink and you get a recommendation with a story attached. Darrin runs music trivia and karaoke nights, keeps the playlist rolling, and mixes off-menu concoctions around whatever you tell him you like.
The wall behind the bar is lined with framed photos of past patrons, and guests leave a sign-off on the chalkboard before they go.
“Darrin was very funny and the drinks were fantastic! Definitely hoping to visit again in the future.”
