Not Wicked, Just Good®

60+ flavors churned on site from Maine milk, every scoop the size of a baseball.

Milk from Maine. Ice cream from Heaven.

The hard ice cream mix is 14% butterfat, made with Maine milk from farms without added growth hormones, with short shelf-life pasteurization for freshness.

The shop started out scooping a regional distributor's premium ice cream, then switched to making its own in 2012. The chief ice cream maker trained in ice cream programs at Cornell, Penn State, Wisconsin, Florida, Ice Cream University and Pre-Gel of America, and the shop belongs to the North American Ice Cream Association.

Named for the neighbors

The Indulgences are built on whoopie pies, brownies, cookies and blueberry pies baked in-house, in a bakery case the menu calls A Parish of Pastries. Two of them honor real Bar Harbor clergy: Pastor Rob Benson of the Bar Harbor Congregational Church and Preacher Patterson of River Church.

The couple on Dreamwood Hill

Bob Wisecarver worked in insurance around Boston; his wife spent her career in education. They vacationed in Bar Harbor for more than 27 years before buying the Dreamwood Hill building on Route 3 in 2005, then spent years remodeling it with their daughter and local carpenter Brian Shaw.

Udder Heaven opened in 2008, and since 2012 the ice cream has been made right here, batch by batch. The shop supports the Bar Harbor Backpack Program, the Bar Harbor Garden Club scholarship program, Putting for Patriots events at Pirates Cove, and scholarships for its own employees. For a lot of local kids, a summer behind this counter is a first job.

On Route 3, across from Pirates Cove

369 State Highway 3 (ME-3), Bar Harbor, ME 04609

Udder Heaven shares one building, one front door and even a few employees with Mainely Meat BBQ. Two separate, independent businesses occupying the same space, as owner Bob Wisecarver puts it. BBQ first, sundae after.

Open seasonally, daily 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
